Mantel Decor-Knowing When to Say Enough

Recently, I’ve been presented with the idea of – “knowing when to say enough”. I decided this little phrase is something I should incorporate into my entire life; knowing when to say enough time on my phone, television, Facebook, Instagram, and unfortunately girl scout cookies. (They literally don’t last a week at my house.) Those types of things are obvious, and honestly the list could go on and on. But I’ve found one area where I’m learning to say “enough” and it’s been a bit of a surprise. I realized it when I was transitioning my living room mantel from its Winter decor to its Spring decor.

When I redecorate an area, I completely empty the space. This serves two purposes:

  1. It gives me the ability to thoroughly clean the space – I’m way too into cleaning
  2. I get to add the new items without the distractions of what I had there before – I get a fresh start, a clean slate for the new decor

The mantel was cleaned and ready for me to begin adding items. I had my collection of pieces I wanted on the mantel waiting for me to place them. As I began the process of adding one item and then another and another and still another; I was reminded – enough. I started over. I emptied the mantel and tried again. This time I went slower. After each item was up I took a step back to get a feel for how the mantel was shaping up. By intentionally stepping back so often, I was able to get the big picture and know when I had finally decorated enough.

It’s refreshing. It almost makes me take a big exhale just looking at it (especially considering what all I had up there the first go around). With less, it’s as if there is breathing room. This reminds me of early Spring. When things start popping up from the ground, or when buds begin to appear on branches they aren’t “full”. There is plenty of space between each bud, and between each iris, tulip, and daffodil. The big bushy and full look will come after Spring is well underway.

There is one more thing I’d like to share with you that this little word taught me. While I love looking at my Spring mantel decor, decorating with this new perspective and challenging myself to thin my time on my phone; this isn’t how the word ‘enough’ has changed me most. Hearing that I am enough has changed me far more. Concerning the word “enough” I want you to know that you are enough. We spend so much of our time and energy trying to be enough; good enough, wise enough, strong enough, brave enough, etc. etc. I want you to know; you are. You are enough. This is not because I say so, it’s because the Creator of the universe says so every single day. The world needs you to remember you are enough. You have gifts. You have a purpose. Don’t let anyone or anything take that from you — and that includes yourself. The world is counting on you to fulfill what you were meant to do and become who you were created to be.

You are enough.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week! I can’t wait to hear about what you’re saying “enough” to.
